2005 Inductees
Edgar Allen – East Nashville High School, class of 1942. Nationally known journalist who covered sports 37 years for the Nashville Banner, including 11 years as Sports Editor.

Johnny Beazley Jr. – Hume-Fogg High School, class of 1936 (posthumous induction). Played baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Braves, former Metro Council member.

Charles E. Davis – McGavock High School, class of 1976. Played basketball at Vanderbilt, then with the Washington Bullets, Milwaukee Bucks, San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls.

Wayne Garland –  Cohn High School, class of 1968.  Played baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louse Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians.

Junior Gilliam – Washington Junior High School. (posthumous induction). Played baseball with the Dodgers (first in Brooklyn, then in Los Angeles). Won National Rookie of the Year Award in 1953.

Henry Kimbro – Mount Zeno School (posthumous induction). Played baseball with the Washington Elite Giants, the Baltimore Elite Giants, New York Black Yankees, Birmingham Black Barons.

Billy Lawrence – West End High School, class of 1947. Played three varsity sports at U.S. Naval Academy, spent six years as prisoner of war in North Viet Nam, served as Superintendent of U.S. Naval Academy.

Theodore McClain – Pearl High School, class of 1967. “Hound” played basketball with the Carolina Cougars, Kentucky Colonels, New York Nets, Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns.

Bob Montgomery – Central High School, class of 1962.  Played baseball with the Boston Red Sox, earned 11 Emmy awards as a television broadcaster.

Bonnie Sloan – Isaac Litton High School, class of 1969. Played football Austin Peay State University, then for the St. Louis Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints.

Charles Murphy – Central High School, class of 1934 (posthumous induction). Former football coach at Middle Tennessee State University, “Bubber” has the record for most wins in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Judy Eller Street – Dupont High School, class of 1958. Street was a seven-time Tennessee Women’s Golf champion and past director of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

Bob Tillman – Issac Litton High School, class of 1956 (posthumous induction). Played for seven professional baseball teams including the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves.

Jim Turner – Cane Ridge High School, class of 1920 (posthumous induction). Participated in professional baseball for 51 years with teams including the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds.

George Volkert – Isaac Litton High School, class of 1953 (posthumous induction). Played in three college bowl games with Georgia Tech: Cotton, Gator and Sugar.

Perry Wallace Jr. – Pearl High School, class of 1966. Attended Vanderbilt where he was the first African-American varsity basketball player in the SEC. Member of the District of Columbia Bar.
