What Makes Our School Unique?

The mission of the McCann Alternative Learning Center is to intervene positively with students not succeeding in a traditional school environment. McCann offers an opportunity for a new beginning for each student by addressing their needs. By learning to take responsibility for their own behavior, getting along with others and staying on task until they complete their goals, student leave McCann with the skills necessary for success in the regular school setting and the greater society.

Our goal is to counsel with students regarding appropriate school behaviors and social interaction with peers, teachers, and staff. Students meet weekly with a counselor to discuss anger management, conflict resolution, problem solving and decision making skills. We link community resources with our students and their families to provide additional support services needed.

Our goal is to support student success and assist them as they accept responsibility for their conduct at school. When students exit the program and return to their school of zone, we know that our program has positively impacted their behavior.

Our school is unique because we have the opportunity to interact with students who are very intelligent but somewhat unfocused. We plan and implement programs which encourage appropriate skills for school. We raise the level for performance, and help the student reduce negative interaction in the school setting. Student set goals to increase their achievement levels on DEA and TCAP to proficient and advanced. We have provided the instruction, technology and support for their success.

We are currently looking for mentors and tutors to work with our students. Please visit www.onenashville.org  to volunteer. We welcome the continued support of the Nashville community as we transition students back to their school of zone.
