Nashville School of the Arts has sixty-one faculty and staff members. There is one executive principal, one assistant principal, thirty-four teachers, two guidance counselors, and one librarian/media specialist. There are five clerical support personnel: an executive secretary, two office secretaries, one guidance clerk and one media clerk. Additionally, NSA has seven custodial staff members, four cafeteria staff members, two campus security officers, and one of each of the following: a Metro police officer, school psychologist, school nurse, paraprofessional educational assistant, in-school suspension staff member, a data technician, and a technical support specialist.
The faculty is composed of veteran and novice teachers. Ninety-seven percent of the courses taught at NSA are taught by Highly Qualified teachers. Of the professional personnel, 28% have their Bachelor’s Degrees, 46% have their Master’s, 18% have their Master’s +30 or +45, 3% have their Ed.S., and 5.1% have their doctorate. Fifteen percent of the faculty has twenty-one or more years of experience; 23% has sixteen to twenty year of experience; 23% has eleven to fifteen years of experience; 21% has six to ten years of experience; and 18% has five or fewer years of experience.
NSA’s faculty participates in numerous professional development opportunities offered by the district, state, and professional organizations. NSA is committed to high quality instruction and the use of research based strategies to improve achievement among the NSA students. To this end, 35% of the faculty is involved in system wide leadership activities. Many faculty members have served on the district’s standards writing committee for core subjects. Several have participated in the district’s diversity training initiative. Some of our teachers have initiated arts related camps that the district’s administrative personnel deem important and beneficial for the system.
